When the Oscar nominations are announced on January 24th, there will be a dramatic departure from the format that we’ve been used to. The nominations announcement will still take place in the early AM hours and is set to begin at5:18am PST. But instead of being at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater with press present for live reactions, it will now be produced in-house and with Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs joined by Oscar winners Brie Larson, Jennifer Hudson, Emmanuel Lubezki and Oscar nominees Jason Reitman and Ken Watanabe, all of whom will add their own personal experiences at nominees during the pre-taped announcement.
UPDATE: Dustin Lance Black, Glenn Close, Guillermo del Toro, Marcia Gay Harden, Terrence Howard and Gabourey Sidibe have been added to the list of previous winners and nominees participating in the nomination announcement. These talented artists and filmmakers were filmed in six different cities around the globe—Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Toronto, London, and Tokyo.
The pre-taped video footage will be edited together with voiceover and graphics announcing the nominations in all 24 award categories. In keeping with tradition, PwC will deliver the Oscars Nominations list to the Academy this evening, January 23.
The nominations will be announced via a global live stream on Oscar.com, Oscars.org, the Academy’s digital platforms, a satellite feed, and local broadcasters, including ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Downloads and editorial content for the 24 Oscar award categories will be available on Oscar.com and Oscars.org immediately following the announcement.
