2017 Oscars: What the Official Order of Awards Presentation Might Tell Us

The official order of presentation for tonight’s Oscars is here and there are some very strategically placed awards, it seems. One Supporting usually kicks things off and tonight is no different. This one, however, will unfold one of the night’s biggest mysteries. Both screenplay awards are way at the end, which is a bit unusual. Sound Editing and Mixing is near the beginning. A La La Land win in Sound Editing will probably signal the beginning of a major sweep. By holding a huge portion of La La Land’s likely wins near the end, they could be keeping the audience from being too bored at the beginning with a clear and present sweep.

Lead Actress lands just before Best Picture. Could make for an interesting spoiler…

Right smack in the middle are your office Oscar pool deciders: Live Action and Doc Short Subject.

Two awards ripe for major speeches are back-to-back; Supporting Actress and Foreign Language Film. Viola Davis, the clear frontrunner, has been giving incredible speeches all season and this will be her biggest. It will earn her a standing ovation. Foreign Language Film is going to be very political – all directors of the nominated films have clapped back hard at the President’s unlawful anti-immigrant actions. No matter what film wins, we’re likely going to hear some quotable commentary and another standing ovation.
