The San Francisco Film Critics Circle (SFFCC) announced today the nominees in all categories for their 2017 Awards. Members have combed through the year’s best films to decide on the nominees in each category.
The Shape of Water earned the most nominations from the group by a significant margins. It got nine mentions including Best Picture, Director, Actress and Supporting Actor. Call Me By Your Name and Dunkirk followed with five apiece but interestingly the former is nominated for Best Picture but not Best Director and the latter is the opposite. The Florida Project (4), Get Out (4) and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (4) round out the Best Picture nominees.
Andy Serkis grabbed a Best Actor nomination for his motion capture work in War for the Planet of the Apes, besting the likes of Daniel Day-Lewis (Phantom Thread), Tom Hanks (The Post) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Stronger). It is the actor’s first mention of the season.
The Post earned just a single nomination, for Editing, but nothing for Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg or anything else.
The circle, comprised of critics from across the Bay Area and Northern California, will meet Sunday, December 10 in San Francisco to decide the winners. Winners will be announced starting at 12:15PM PST.
