Steve McQueen’s anthology series Small Axe and Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You led the winners of the 2021 BAFTA Television Craft Awards, which were announced on Monday.

Small Axe took home five awards, including JoJo Williams for Make Up & Hair Design, Jacqueline Durran for Costume Design, Helen Scott for Production Design, Shabier Kirchner for Photography & Lighting for Fiction and Gary Davy for Scripted Casting. The series led the overall nominations with 15. I May Destroy You three of its eight nominations so far including two for Coel for Director for Fiction (with Sam Miller, where she bested McQueen) and Writer for Drama. The limited series also won Editing for Fiction.

“I would like to thank every draft. There are hundreds of them, each living only briefly and sacrificing themselves so the version we watched that won this BAFTA could exist,” Coel said.

The Crown, which was second with 10 nominations, went 0/6 today, while Normal People went 0/4. The ceremony was broadcast live on BAFTA’s YouTube and Facebook page, with Gbemisola Ikumelo serving as host.

The Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards ceremony, which will announce winners in acting and series categories, will be June 6 and hosted by Richard Ayoade, who emceed the 2020 awards.
