The 2021 Daytime Emmy Awards aren’t done yet. After announcing winners on June 27 in the Drama, Entertainment, Game Show and Talk Show categories, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences continued handing out its final slate of awards on Saturday and Sunday in the Children’s, Animation and Lifestyle categories this weekend in two live-streamed events.

The Children’s and Animation ceremony on Saturday was hosted by Raven-Symoné, a previous Daytime Emmy nominee for Raven’s Home and The View. She was joined by guest presenter and Odd Squad star Millie Davis.

Some big name wins on Saturday included Mark Hamill as Outstanding Performer in a Preschool Animated Program for his role as Vuli in Elena of Avalor for the episode “Coronation Day,” Sophie Grace won Outstanding Younger Performer in a Children’s Program for her role as Kristy Thomas in The Baby-Sitters Club, and Lupita Nyong’o found herself halfway to EGOT after winning Outstanding Limited Performance in a Children’s Program for Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices. On Sunday, Zac Efron won Outstanding Daytime Program Host for his show Down to Earth with Zac Efron and Diego Luna won Outstanding Daytime Talent in a Spanish Language Program for Pan y Circo.

There was one tie, in the category of Outstanding Writing Team for a Daytime Non-Fiction Special where the 2020 Film Independent Spirit Awards and Jeopardy!: The Greatest of All Time shared the award.

If you’re asking yourself how the Daytime Emmys distinguish themselves from the Primetime Emmys, they are presented to individuals and programs broadcast between 2am and 6pm, as well as certain categories of digital and syndicated programming of similar content, with game shows excepted.

Organizers of this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards said they received more than 3,000 submissions that originally premiered in calendar-year 2020. The submissions were judged by a pool of more than 1,000 peer professionals from across the television industry.

Erik Anderson is the founder/owner and Editor-in-Chief of AwardsWatch and has always loved all things Oscar, having watched the Academy Awards since he was in single digits; making lists, rankings and predictions throughout the show. This led him down the path to obsessing about awards. Much later, he found himself in film school and the film forums of GoldDerby, and then migrated over to the former Oscarwatch (now AwardsDaily), before breaking off to create AwardsWatch in 2013. He is a Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic, accredited by the Cannes Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and more, is a member of the International Cinephile Society (ICS), The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (GALECA), Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) and the International Press Academy. Among his many achieved goals with AwardsWatch, he has given a platform to underrepresented writers and critics and supplied them with access to film festivals and the industry and calls the Bay Area his home where he lives with his husband and son.
