2022 Emmy Predictions: Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

The categories that represent Limited Series (and TV Movies) have exploded over the past few years, as there are more Limited Series every year vying for attention from audiences. This year is no different, offering a myriad of these series this past year from various streamers and networks. The Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category this year is going to be a good group of ladies this year, as there are so many to choose from and only six slots to fill.

Starting with the most likely “lock” of the group, Jennifer Coolidge is poised to receive her first Emmy nomination for her role in HBO’s The White Lotus. The role has previously garnered the actress attention from the Screen Actors Guild and the Golden Globes, making her the likely frontrunner going into nominations. There’s also a chance that her White Lotus co-star Connie Britton might receive some attention from the Television Academy; Britton is no stranger to the Emmys, having been nominated four times previously. Slightly less likely, but still possible, is that Alexandra Daddario might be the third actress from the series to grab a nomination in this category. Daddario might not have as “meaty” a role as Coolidge, but she still has a couple of stand-out scenes that could keep the attention on her.

Kaitlyn Dever delivered a devastating performance in Hulu’s Dopesick and it would be a real shame if she wasn’t able to make it this year. Dever has never been nominated for an Emmy, but she was nominated for the Critics Choice Award this year for her role in the series. This puts her in a prime spot for recognition in this category this year. Another newcomer to the Emmys, Andie MacDowell, looks likely to break into this category this year for her performance in Netflix’s Maid. Her co-star, Margaret Qualley, seems poised to break into the Lead Actress category this year, so it’s likely that the show will grab more than one acting nomination.. Three-time Emmy winner Laurie Metcalf is also in the race for her performance in The Dropout. Metcalf doesn’t necessarily have any “big” scenes that showcase her acting abilities in this show, but as aforementioned, the Television Academy loves to nominate actors and actresses that have previously won or been nominated.

Here are my Emmy predictions for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

  1. Jennifer Coolidge – The White Lotus (HBO)
  2. Kaitlyn Dever – Dopesick (Hulu)
  3. Andie MacDowell – Maid (Netflix)
  4. Chloë Sevigny – The Girl from Plainville (Hulu)
  5. Connie Britton – The White Lotus (HBO)
  6. Laurie Metcalf – The Dropout (Hulu)

Look Out For: Ellen Burstyn – The First Lady (Showtime); Alexandra Daddario – The White Lotus (HBO); Florence Pugh – Hawkeye (Disney+)
