2023 Daytime Emmy Awards nominations: ‘General Hospital’ leads serials with 19, ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ leads syndicated with 11

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced nominations for the its 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards today with last year’s winner, ABC’s General Hospital, leading the way with 19 nods, including Daytime Drama Series and 10 acting nominations, including three in each of the supporting categories.

CBS was next with The Bold and the Beautiful earning 14 nods, followed by The Young and the Restless with 13, NBC’s Days of Our Lives and The Kelly Clarkson Show both earned 11, with the later the most-nominated syndicated program of the year. Clarkson’s show is the reigning winner here, having snagged the top award for the last two years. She’ll once again go up against the eponymous shows from Drew Barrymore, Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager plus Jennifer Hudson’s self-titled program, which replaces last year’s nominee Hot Ones.

“In addition to this year’s many esteemed nominees, it is especially gratifying to also be celebrating so many milestones of Daytime television in our 50th anniversary year,” said NATAS head of daytime Brent Stanton. “Not only are we celebrating 50 years of Daytime Emmy Award programming, we are also celebrating the milestones of some of its longest-running shows such as General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray,” he continued.

The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime. In addition, in recognition of the marked increase in content and entries for children’s programming, 2022 marked the first annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, with relevant categories separating from the Daytime Emmys into their own competition and ceremony.

All awards are judged by a pool of more than 1,000 peer professionals from across the television industry, whose confidential ballots were then tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Lutz & Carr, LLP.

The 50th Daytime Emmys telecast will air live June 16 on CBS and Paramount+ as part of a new, two-year telecast deal that the academy has set with CBS. The Daytime Emmys Lifestyle & Creative Arts Ceremony will take place the next day, on June 17. The show will be produced by NATAS and Associated Television International. Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer from ATI.
