2024 BAFTA TV Award Nominations: ‘The Crown’ Leads with Eight
The final season of Netflix’s The Crown, chronicling the rises and falls of the British monarchy which began with the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, has nabbed the most BAFTA TV Award nominations for its sixth and final season.
The series earned acting nods for including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw, yet missed out on a lead performance nomination for Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, and for series, where it had earned three previous nominations.
What did make the cut for Drama Series were The Gold, Happy Valley, Slow Horses and Top Boy.
Just behind The Crown was another Netflix production, the Black Mirror episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan. BBC dramas Happy Valley and The Sixth Commandment as well as AppleTV+’s Slow Horses earned six nominations each.
“It is a real privilege to announce today’s nominations which recognize the most gripping, entertaining, challenging, funniest, most informative, highest quality and most impactful TV programs of 2023, as voted for by BAFTA members,” said BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip. “More than 100 programs across 12 broadcasters and streamers represent an extraordinary range of content. It is important that we celebrate the extraordinary craft and creativity of the broadcast sector, particularly during this challenging year for many people working in the industry.”
The BAFTA TV Craft awards will be held on April 28 and the BAFTA TV awards on May 12.
