2024 Directors Guild of America (DGA) Television, Commercials and Documentary Nominations: ‘Shōgun,’ ‘The Bear,’ ‘The Penguin’ Dominate

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) today announced the nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials and Documentary for 2024 where Shōgun, The Bear and The Penguin dominated, earning three of the five spots in their respective categories.

In Dramatic Series, Shōgun was nominated for the episodes “Ladies of the Willow World” (Hiromi Kamata), the Emmy-winning “Crimson Sky” (Frederick E.O. Toye) and “Anjin” (Jonathan Van Tulleken). The Bear‘s Comedy Series nominations came from the episodes “Napkins,” “Doors” and “Tomorrow.” The Penguin‘s nominations in Movies for Television and Limited Series were “Top Hat,” “Cent’anni” and “A Great or Little Thing.”

All five nominees for documentary – Daughters, Sugarcane, Porcelain War, Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etre and Hollywoodgate – are Oscar-shortlisted for Documentary Feature.

The winners will be announced at the 77th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.

Nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film and the Michael Apted Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in First-Time Theatrical Feature Film will be announced on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
