2024 SAG and PGA TV Awards Predictions: ‘Succession,’ ‘The Bear,’ ‘Beef’ Expected to Keep Winning

This Saturday, February 24, marks the first Screen Actors Guild awards ceremony being broadcast live on Netflix, the streamer’s first live event of its kind. The streamer isn’t as big of a presence this year in the television categories, specifically drama, as it has been in recent years, making way for HBO to stream roll through certain categories.

It will certainly be a big night for Succession, which celebrated wins at the Emmys recently for its final season, and will surely make big plays at the SAG awards for its last outing. It would be a surprise if anyone could manage to beat either Kieran Culkin or Sarah Snook or Actor and Actress in a Drama Series, respectively. Matthew Macfadyen, Culkin’s co-star, is easily the biggest competition for this category since Jeremy Strong wasn’t nominated. Snook might only see a competitor in Bella Ramsey for their performance in The Last of Us, but even that’s a long shot. Snook has been lauded for her performance in the final season of Succession, so it won’t be a shock for her peers to recognize her as well.

Similarly in both comedy and limited series categories, there are two shows that were just represented heavily at the Emmys that will probably keep the momentum going right into these awards: The Bear and Beef. Jeremy Allen White will likely repeat his win from last year in Actor in a Comedy Series, while co-star Ayo Edebiri stands a good chance at becoming a first time SAG award recipient. Edebiri’s presence has grown over the past year with The Bear and Bottoms, likely thrusting her a little further than her competition in her category. Beef took home Emmys for its two lead actors, Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, and it should be expected the pair will take home the respective awards for their performances in Netflix’s limited series.

Sunday night is the 35th Producers Guild of America’s annual awards for film and television categories for outstanding producing, so it’s time to dive into the categories and predict the winners for the tv categories.

There will likely be a repeat from the three top winners from the Emmys coming into this, a strong leaning towards Succession, The Bear, and Beef, for the drama, comedy, and limited/anthology series categories, respectively. The Last of Us will be bringing a little heat in the competition for drama, one of last year’s most talked about dramas that brought tension and tears. Jury Duty could be the big spoiler for the comedy category against The Bear, but with adoration only having grown since the FX series sophomore season, it doesn’t seem likely.

RuPaul’s Drag Race will likely reclaim its crown for Outstanding Producer of Game & Competition Television, its four year streak broken last year to Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls. Sesame Street looks to claim another victory in the Children’s Program category, with The Velveteen Rabbit looking to steal the thunder from Elmo and friends. I Think You Should Leave deserves the Short Form Program award, and will probably win this year, even against last year’s winner, Only Murders in the Building: One Killer Question.
