2024 Toronto International Film Festival Announces Galas and Special Programs including World Premieres from Mike Leigh, Gia Coppola, Angelina Jolie

The 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival has revealed this year’s lineup of 63 films from the Gala, sponsored by Dyson, and Special Presentations programs.

Joining previously announced world premieres of Marielle Heller’s Nightbitch with Amy Adams, Ron Howard’s Eden with Ana de Armas, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby and Jude Law, and John Crowley’s We Live in Time with Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, TIFF will also see the first looks at William Goldenberg Unstoppable, starring Jennifer Lopez and Jharrel Jerome and produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths, starring Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ Heretic, starring Hugh Grant, Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl, starring Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis, Rachel Morrison’s The Fire Inside, starring Brian Tyree Henry and Ryan Destiny, and Angelina Jolie’s Without Blood, starring Demián Bichir, as well as several films designated as ‘International Premieres,’ signifying we’ll be seeing them at Venice and/or Telluride first, including Edward Berger’s Conclave, Julie Delpy’s Meet the Barbarians, and Malcolm Washington’s The Piano Lesson, starring John David Washington, Samuel L. Jackson and Danielle Deadwyler.

The Gala and Special Presentations films come from 25 countries, including 29 sales titles. Tuesday, July 23 will see the reveal of the Platform program, the Discovery program on the 24th and the Midnight program on the 25th. The 49th edition of the festival will take place from September 5-15.

Tickets for TIFF ’24 go on sale to TIFF Members by level beginning on Friday, August 16. For more details, visit tiff.net/join. The full Festival schedule will be released on Tuesday, August 13.

Erik Anderson is the founder/owner and Editor-in-Chief of AwardsWatch and has always loved all things Oscar, having watched the Academy Awards since he was in single digits; making lists, rankings and predictions throughout the show. Much later, he found himself in film school and the film forums of GoldDerby, and then migrated over to the former Oscarwatch (now AwardsDaily), before breaking off to create AwardsWatch in 2013. He is a Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic, accredited by the Cannes Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and more, is a member of the International Cinephile Society (ICS), The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (GALECA), Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) and the International Press Academy. Among his many achieved goals with AwardsWatch, he has given a platform to underrepresented writers and critics and supplied them with access to film festivals and the industry and calls the Bay Area his home where he lives with his husband and son.
