2025 Gotham Television Awards: ‘Adolescence,’ ‘The Pitt,’ ‘The Studio’ Take Top Wins

Two of the season’s most talked about shows, Netflix’s Adolescence and HBO Max’s The Pitt, were the top winners of the second annual Gotham Television Awards tonight.
The ceremony was held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
Winning Breakthrough Limited Series was Adolescence, which tells the aftermath story of a 13-year-old boy, who murders a classmate. The series also won Outstanding Lead Performance in a Limited Series, awarded to Stephen Graham, and Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Limited Series, awarded to its young star Owen Cooper, in his first acting role.
In a tie in the supporting category, Jenny Slate also won for her work in the FX series Dying for Sex.
The Pitt took home the Breakthrough Drama Series award. The medical drama tells its story in hour-long episodes that unfold in real time entirely within a Pittsburgh hospital. Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series was awarded to Kathy Bates in CBS’s Matlock, a new modern version of the classic 80s show. Ben Whishaw won Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Drama Series for his role as an assassin for hire in the Netflix spy thriller Black Doves.
The Studio, the behind-the-scenes of a studio executive and his team as they navigate Hollywood from AppleTV+, won Breakthrough Comedy Series. Outstanding Lead Performance in a Comedy Series was awarded to Julio Torres for his performance in the surrealist HBO Max’s Fantasmas. Poorna Jagannathan won Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Comedy Series for her role of a crime boss auntie in FX’s Deli Boys.
Winning the Breakthrough Nonfiction Series award was FX’s Social Studies, a look at how social media shapes the lives of a group of LA teens during a full school year.
The inaugural Outstanding Original Film, Broadcast or Streaming was awarded to Pee-Wee as Himself, which explores the life and career of actor Paul Reubens. Aaron Pierre took home Outstanding Performance in an Original Film for his role as a former Marine in the action thriller Rebel Ridge.
Several tributes were handed out throughout the evening; Parker Posey received the inaugrual Legend Tribute, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, as well as Director Hwang Dong-hyuk received Creator Tributes, Elisabeth Moss and the cast of The Handmaid’s Tale received the inaugural Ensemble Tribute, Brian Tyree Henry received the Performer Tribute, Sheryl Lee Ralph received the Sidney Poitier Icon Tribute, and David E. Kelley received the Visionary Tribute.
