23 for ’23: Final Oscar predictions for the 95th Academy Awards in all categories

Published by

I’m predicting six wins for Everything Everywhere All At Once, the most of any Best Picture winner since 2009’s The Hurt Locker, which also won six. We haven’t seen one even win more than four since 2011’s The Artist so it’s certainly on the riskier side to do so.

I have Elvis and All Quiet on the Western Front winning and one apiece for The Banshees of Inisherin, Women Talking and Avatar: The Way of Water. That’s a lot of donuts for Best Picture nominees TÁR, The Fabelmans (which would be the first TIFF People’s Choice winner since 2011 to earn no Oscars), Top Gun: Maverick and Triangle of Sadness considering the Academy has definitely enjoyed spreading the wealth. While The Fabelmans and Triangle of Sadness seem the most likely to suffer an empty-handed night, history favors both TÁR and Top Gun: Maverick in their hotly contested categories. A win for the former in Best Actress and/or the latter in Film Editing and/or Sound are possible and have been widely predicted elsewhere.

A smattering of single wins for non-Best Picture nominees like Babylon, RRR and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio are in the mix with Babylon potentially snagging two.

Just three more days and we’ll know all.

Here are my final 2023 Oscar winner predictions in all 23 categories in one place. Click on each category for the deeper dive.

Erik Anderson

Erik Anderson is the founder/owner and Editor-in-Chief of AwardsWatch and has always loved all things Oscar, having watched the Academy Awards since he was in single digits; making lists, rankings and predictions throughout the show. This led him down the path to obsessing about awards. Much later, he found himself in film school and the film forums of GoldDerby, and then migrated over to the former Oscarwatch (now AwardsDaily), before breaking off to create AwardsWatch in 2013. He is a Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic, accredited by the Cannes Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and more, is a member of the International Cinephile Society (ICS), The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (GALECA), Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) and the International Press Academy. Among his many achieved goals with AwardsWatch, he has given a platform to underrepresented writers and critics and supplied them with access to film festivals and the industry and calls the Bay Area his home where he lives with his husband and son.
