The Chlotrudis Society, known for some of the more off the beaten path nominations in the world of critics’ awards, has revealed the nominees for their 29th edition where Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun is the leader with six mentions, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor for Paul Mescal.

The Banshees of Insiherin was next with four nominations, yet didn’t manage a Best Movie or Best Director nomination among them. After Yang (3), Drive My Car (2), Petite Maman (2) and Triangle of Sadness (3) round out the group’s Best Movie nominees and joining Wells for Best Director are Kogonada for After Yang, Hirokazu Kore-eda for Broker, Sarah Polley for Women Talking, Céline Sciamma for Petite Maman and Apichatpong Weerasethakul for Memoria.

Indie darling and newly minted Oscar nominee Andrea Riseborough earned a Best Actress nomination for To Leslie but her co-star Allison Janney was also nominated, in Supporting Actress. Also nominated for Best Actress are Alyssa Chia in The Falls, Dale Dickey in A Love Story, Adèle Exarchopoulos in Zero Fucks Given, Amber Midthunder in The Wheel and Claire Rushbrook in Ali & Ava. Joining Janney in Supporting Actress are Kerry Condon in The Banshees of Inisherin, Carly-Sophia Davies in The Eternal Daughter, Judy Davis in Nitram, Aisling Franciosi in God’s Creatures and Thomasin McKenzie in The Justice of Bunny King.

The Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film is a non-profit organization that teaches audiences to view films actively, helps people experience the world through independent film, and encourages discussion and discourse about film and the world. The Chlotrudis Awards are given out annually, beginning in 1995. According to Society by-laws, to be eligible for an award, “a film cannot have been released on more than 1,000 screens nationally during its first four weeks. Films that only play festivals or are released direct to DVD are not eligible.” The organization was founded in 1994 by Michael Colford and was named after his and his boyfriend Trent’s two cats, Chloe and Gertrudis.
