30th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Nominations: ‘Barbie,’ ‘Oppenheimer,’ ‘Succession’ Lead

The nominees for the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards honoring outstanding individual, cast and ensemble performances for the past year were announced this morning where the summer blockbusters Barbie and Oppenheimer led with four nominations apiece. Each earned Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture nods as well as for their leads (Margot Robbie and Cillian Murphy, respectively) and one for each in supporting actor (Ryan Gosling and Robert Downey Jr.) Barbie‘s fourth was in the Stunt Ensemble category and Oppenheimer‘s came in supporting actress for Emily Blunt.

Up next with three nominations in film categories were American Fiction and Killers of the Flower Moon followed by several double nominations for The Holdovers, Nyad, Maestro, The Color Purple and Poor Things. Several individual were double nominees themselves including Colman Domingo, Margot Robbie, Lily Gladstone and Jeffrey Wright.

Snubs came in hard as Leonardo DiCaprio missed in lead for Killers of the Flower Moon and the entire cast of May December and Air got blanked. While Willem Dafoe made it in for Poor Things, his co-star Mark Ruffalo did not.

In television, Succession unsurprisingly led the way with five but with a huge snub for Emmy winner Jeremy Strong. His co-stars Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Matthew Mcfadyen all got into Male Actor in a Drama Series while Sarah Snook earned a nod for Female Actor in a Drama Series. Culkin, Macfadyen and Snook all won Golden Globes for their performances last weekend.

The Bear, The Last of Us and Ted Lasso all earned four nominations for their ensemble and for individual cast members. SAG does not have supporting categories for television so Brett Goldstein and Jason Sudeikis compete against each other alongside Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

The nominees were announced by Issa Rae (a double nominee for Barbie and American Fiction) and Kumail Nanjiani (Welcome to Chippendales, The Big Sick) via Instagram Live. The nominees for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles were announced by SAG Awards Committee Members Jason George and Woody Schultz with an introduction by SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher.

As previously announced, the legendary actor, singer, producer, writer, and director Barbra Streisand will be honored with the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievements and humanitarian accomplishments during the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony.

With 119,515 eligible SAG-AFTRA voters, final voting opens on Wednesday, January 17 and closes at Noon PT on Friday, February 23.

The SAG Awards, produced by SAG-AFTRA and Silent House Productions, will stream live globally on Netflix Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall.
