MILL VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES
A SPOTLIGHT ON GAEL GARCÍA BERNAL
OCTOBER 10TH, 2016
SAN RAFAEL, CA (September 21, 2016) – The Mill Valley Film Festival is proud to honor actor-director-producer Gael Garcia Bernal with a Spotlight, featuring an on-stage conversation, a screening of NERUDA, and the presentation of the MVFF Award.
Spotlight on Gael Garcia Bernal
Actor-director-producer Gael García Bernal first grabbed the world’s attention in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Amores Perros, going on to star in many acclaimed Mexican (Y Tu Mamá También, El Crimen del Padre Amaro), Hollywood (The Motorcycle Diaries, Babel), and international (Bad Education, The Science of Sleep) films. Bernal founded his production company, Canana Films, with frequent co-star Diego Luna in 2003 and directed his first feature, Déficit, in 2007. Kicking off 2016 with a Golden Globe award for Mozart in the Jungle, Bernal rounds out the year with a remarkable performance in Pablo Larraín’s Neruda.
About NERUDA
Chile 2016, 107 min
Director Pablo Larraín
Beloved poet Pablo Neruda is also the most famous communist in post-WWII Chile. When the political tides shift, he is forced underground, with a perseverant police inspector (Gael García Bernal) on his trail. Part fact and many parts fiction, Pablo Larraín’s self-proclaimed “anti-bio” is a brilliant blend of politics, poetry, history, and hedonism.
