The 3rd Children’s & Family Emmy Awards were handed out last night where nomination leader Percy Jackson and the Olympians was the big winner, with eight awards from its 16 nominations.
Percy Jackson won for young teen series, writing for a young teen series, directing for a single camera live action program, editing for a single camera live action program, visual effects for a live action program, show open, casting for a live action program and music direction and composition for a live action program.
“It is such a privilege to get to create stories that bring joy, magic and wonder to kids and families, and we couldn’t be prouder of everyone at Disney Branded Television and across The Walt Disney Company who pour their hearts into this important work every day,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television.
Administered by the New York-based National Academy of TV Arts & Sciences, the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards launched in 2022 and were previously were held in December — but moved to March for the third edition. The Children’s and Family Emmys kicked off with some of its marquee series awards in the afternoon, and was set to segue to Creative Arts Children’s and Family Emmys in the evening.
Meryl Streep won the Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Personality for Storyline Online, her first in the Daytime or Children’s & Family arena, adding to her three Primetime Emmy wins. Christian Slater won his first ever Emmy
as Outstanding Lead Performer in a Preschool, Children’s, or Young Teen Program for The Spiderwick Chronicles and Jacob Tremblay also earned his first Emmy, in the Outstanding Younger Voice Performer in a Preschool, Children’s or Young Teen Program category, for the animated series Orion and the Dark. Show host Eric Bauza won for his voicework as Daffy Duck & Bugs Bunny, Teen Titans Go!
Tremblay’s win helped bring Orion and the Dark‘s win total to six, including two juried animated awards. Venerable children’s show Sesame Street was a five-time winner plus an honorable mention. Popular YA series Heartstopper, a previous multiple winner here, came in with just three nominations, losing them all.
Other notable winners include Phoenix Laroche, who won Outstanding Younger Performer in a
Preschool, Children’s or Young Teen Program, becoming one of the youngest Emmy winners.
Meanwhile, Sesame Street’s Leslie Carrara-Rudolph received her first Emmy for Outstanding Puppetry
Performer after seven nominations.
Fran Brill, Emmy Award-Winning performer and puppeteer (Sesame Street, The Muppet Show) was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Dave Goelz (The Muppets).
