41st annual Telluride Film Festival Reveals Lineup: The Imitation Game Makes Its Big Debut, plus 99 Homes, Rosewater

The 41st Telluride Film Festival has revealed its initial lineup for this year and we’ll see heavy Oscar hitters The Imitation Game, in its world premiere, plus Wild, Birdman and Foxcatcher leading the way. We’ll also see the premiere of Jon Stewart’s Rosewater. Cannes winners Mommy and Mr. Turner are on the schedule and the highly anticipated 99 Homes will debut. So far it’s without a distributor but it will be hitting most of the festivals this season in search of one.

In the past two years, Best Picture Oscar winners Argo and 12 Years a Slave world premiered here but after the initial slate was revealed. That could happen again with another film but what’s ready? A Most Violent Year just had its first test screening this week so we know it’s not that. Could Big Eyes stage a coup after its mixed test screening reviews and make a big comeback? Perhaps we’ll see Cannes Palme d’Or winner Winter Sleep pop up later.

Also, in this year of festival wars, it seems that Madame Bovary, which is set to premiere at Telluride was listed as a ‘world premiere’ for the Toronto International Film Festival. A miscommunication? Or possibly just an agreed up day/time.

The festival runs August 29th – September 1st.
