TÁR and The Banshees of Inisherin were the big winners from the 43rd London Critics Circle (LCC) tonight, in a ceremony held at The May Fair Hotel in London.
TÁR was named Film of the Year, Todd Field Director of the Year and star Cate Blanchett Actress of the Year (her third win here) for the multi-Oscar nominated film about the downfall of fictional composer Lydia Tár. Nomination leader The Banshees of Inisherin took home the most wins with five, including three acting wins: Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon.
Another nomination leader, Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun, was a two-time winner, both in the breakthrough categories; Wells for her direction and young star Frankie Corio as Young British/Irish Performer of the Year.
Florence Pugh and Bill Nighy were named British/Irish Actress and Actor, respectively, for their body of work in 2022. Pugh for Don’t Worry Darling, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Wonder and Nighy for his Oscar-nominated turn in Living.
Colm Bairéad’s Oscar-nominated Irish film The Quiet Girl and Park Chan-wook’s Korean noir thriller Decision to Leave tied for org’s Foreign-Language Film of the Year award and Laura Poitras’ Oscar-nominated All the Beauty and the Bloodshed was named Documentary of the Year.
The Technical Achievement Award went to Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio for animation, where Gregory Mann, who voiced Pinocchio, accepted.
Michelle Yeoh was honored with The Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film, which was presented by Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle.
The London Critics Circle (LCC), which has over 200 members, is the U.K.’s longest-standing critics organization. Here is the complete list of winners.
