The California Film Institute (CFI) announces the 45th Mill Valley Film Festival (MVFF) dates, Thursday, October 6 – Sunday, October 16, 2022.

MVFF is thrilled to announce its return to the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael and CinéArts Sequoia in Mill Valley with in-person screenings and conversations for the entire eleven days (10/06-16). The Festival returns to the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) Barbro Osher Theater in Berkeley (10/08 -16) and the Lark Theater in Larkspur (10/08-09 & 10/15-16). And new this year, MVFF will expand its footprint to San Francisco, bringing a selection of MVFF45 films to The Roxie Theater for two days (10/15-16). The Festival will also continue to offer a limited selection of online screenings through the CAFilm streaming platform.

The Mill Valley Film Festival has been a yearly stopping point for Best Picture Oscar winners over the last 15 years, including recent winners like Moonlight, Green Book and Parasite, with most having screened at the Northern California fest before embarking on the months-long awards path to the Academy Awards.

“I look back on 44 years of the festival with a mixture of wonder and amazement; it’s hard to believe that we were a 3-day festival in 1978. And yet, here we are on the precipice of our 45th with a program that will run for 11 days,” said MVFF Founder/Director Mark Fishkin. “We are committed to having an inclusive festival that everyone can enjoy, whether it’s a daytime matinee or a late-night feature. To that end, I’m proud to say that we’re expanding our footprint beyond Marin this year. Once again, we will screen in the East Bay at BAMPFA and, for the first time, in San Francisco at the Roxie Theater.”

Advance Ticket Packages and Passes on sale August 1, 2022. CFI members can purchase single tickets in advance of the public beginning Friday, September 9, 2022. General Public Single Tickets on sale Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
