Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has won Best Feature at the 51st Annie Awards, which recognize animated films, as well as all six other categories it was nominated in: directing, music, storyboarding, editing, production design, character design and FX. The ceremony was held at UCLA’s Royce Hall and presented by ASIFA-Hollywood.

GKIDS’ The Boy and the Heron, which also earned seven nominations, won two: for its character animation and storyboarding. Netflix‘s Nimona had led the feature nominations with nine and won two, for writing and voice acting for Chloë Grace Moretz.

Since the creation of the Animated Feature Oscar, the Annie winner and Oscars have aligned 14/22 times, including last year’s Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. Robot Dreams, from NEON, won the Annie for Best Feature – Independent but no film to date has won that category and turned it into an Oscar win. This year’s Best Animated Feature Oscar nominees are: Nimona, The Boy and the Heron, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Elemental and Robot Dreams.

Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Pixar’s Elemental had both earned six nominations but in the wake of Spider-Man‘s sweep both went home empty-handed.

Netflix’s Blue Eye Samurai made a near clean sweep in the TV/media categories, picking up six wins of it seven nominations, and only because it was nominated and won against itself in production design. Disney TV Animation and Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur was next with three wins from its six nominations.

Juried awards were also handed out, “honoring exemplary contributions to the animation industry.” The Winsor McCay Award for lifetime or career achievement went to the late animator and director Charlotte “Lotte” Reiniger, longtime Studio Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi – who is nominated for his score for The Boy and the Heron – and National Film Board animator and producer Marcy Page. The BRIC Foundation, co-founded by Alison Mann and Nicole Hendrix, received the June Foray Award for charitable impact for its work to boost representation across the entertainment, gaming, media and tech industries. The late animation pioneer John Oxberry received the Ub Iwerks Award for technical achievement and a Special Achievement Award waspresented to the artists of Walt Disney Animation. The Special Achievement Award is given to honor unique and outstanding work not recognized within the existing award category structure.

Here is the complete list of winners of the 51st Annie Awards.
