5th Alexander Valley Film Festival (AVFF) – Donate and support if you can
Growing up in a very small town, the local theater was a safe haven. A place to escape and a portal to see things I could only dream of. Decades later, my small enclave in northern California has its own little film festival, the film festival that could – the Alexander Valley Film Festival. Last year, I was honored to be on the screening committee for documentaries and short films and this year I hope to do even more.
It’s almost time for the 5th Annual Alexander Valley Film Festival (AVFF) which will take place October 17-20, 2019. It’s time to celebrate. We hope you will consider supporting the Festival in this HUGE, MILESTONE year!
In just five years, with overwhelming community support, the Alexander Valley Film Society has made a huge impact in Sonoma County. They’ve united and delighted audiences with our ongoing program of drive-ins, arthouse films, and summer movie nights for the whole family. The year culminates in a wide-ranging, yet, intimate, weekend of films and events that is the Alexander Valley Film Festival.
This year, they expect to sell more than 2,000 tickets to both locals and visitors from all over the world who will join them for four days of high-caliber films. Anchored between The Raven Film Center in Healdsburg and The Clover Theater in Cloverdale, the festival will feature special events, panels, and incredible screenings of films to which the community might not otherwise not have access. All of Northern Sonoma County will bask in the glow of Hollywood fanfare, big-hearted philanthropy, old-fashioned fun, along with a twinkle of sophistication.
AVFF showcases and hosts new and emerging talents from all over the world. They create opportunities for the community, students and adults alike, to meet, interact with, and learn from visiting artists. They also offer deeply discounted tickets to students so that no one will be turned away.
In addition to screening cutting-edge films like FREE SOLO (2018) last year, they select diverse works from and about underrepresented artists and communities. They actively seek:
Socially conscious films that depict characters in the richness of their culture and identities; works from directors of color; Latinx-, LGBTQ+-, and female-driven narratives; Youth-oriented stories; Classics; and Indie hits or soon-to-be hits/Arthouse films.
There are so many ways one can help a film festival grow and thrive donations are still the best way to put on the best festival possible, to keep youth education at the forefront and have a glamorous Oscar party in the heart of wine country.
