67th Emmy Nominations: Parsons Out, Transparent Scores Big, Game of Thrones Leads

Presenters (and 2015 nominees) Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black) and Cat Deeley (So You Think You Can Dance) announced the nominees for the 67th Emmy Awards this morning and there some HUGE shocks and snubs abound. Most notably was four-time Emmy winner for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory, which was also snubbed in Comedy Series) who was snubbed this year and Tatiana Maslany, finally making the cut for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Orphan Black. Julianna Margulies, last year’s winner as Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series was snubbed this year, but it’s happened to her before. The bad press for this season of The Good Wife looks to have adversely affected her but not so much her co-star and perennial nominee Christine Baranski who still showed up in Supporting Actress.

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series saw an overabundance of nominations, with 8, instead of the normal 6. Those included huge surprises like Niecy Nash for Getting On (who knew they watched this?) and Gaby Hoffman in Transparent.

In all, HBO’s Game of Thrones came away with a whopping 24 nominations, the most in that show’s history. On the comedy side, Amazon’s freshman show Transparent leads the nominations with 11. HBO’s Veep is not far behind with 9.
