Winners of the 74th ACE Eddie Awards, honoring the best editing in film, television and more were announced today where Oppenheimer and The Holdovers took the drama and comedy theatrical awards.

Both films are up for the film editing Oscar alongside fellow ACE nominees Anatomy of a Fall, Poor Things and Killers of the Flower Moon.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie continued their guild dominance with wins in the animated and documentary feature categories, respectively. In television, The Bear also grabbed another win in comedy, for the second season episode “Forks,” while The Last of Us won drama for its Emmy-winning bottle episode ” Long, Long Time.”

The daytime ceremony was held at UCLA’s Royce Hall and hosted by Drag Race contestant, performer and queer activist Nina West, fresh off her acclaimed performance as Edna Turnblad in the 2-year national touring production of Hairspray.

John Waters was honored with the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award, recognizing an artist who exemplifies distinguished achievement in the art and business of film.

“John Waters isn’t just a filmmaking icon,” said ACE president Kevin Tent, ACE, “He’s a punk rock poet of the picture palace. With each frame, he challenges norms, skewers societal hypocrisies, and explodes cinematic expectations with subversive wit and audacious style. His films crackle with an anarchic energy that’s as intoxicating as it is hilarious and poignant. ACE is proud to celebrate his singular artistic vision that has entertained the hell out of generations.”

ACE also bestowed career achievement honors to film editors Kate Amend, ACE and Walter Murch, ACE for their outstanding career contributions to film editing and Stephen Lovejoy, ACE received the ACE Heritage Award in recognition of his unwavering commitment to advancing the image of the film editor, cultivating respect for the editing profession, and tireless dedication to the American Cinema Editors.

Presenters included longtime John Waters collaborators Mink Stole and Ricki Lake, along with George Lucas, Thomas Lennon, Max Greenfield, Sarayu Blue, LisaGay Hamilton, Kevin Smith, Hank Greenspan and Anna Konkle, among others. Guests enjoyed live music at the after party played by actor, comedian and musician Tom Kenny’s band, Tom Kenny & the Hi-Seas, and there was a special appearance by DJ Lance Rock.
