76th American Cinema Editors ACE Eddie Awards: ‘Sinners,’ ‘One Battle After Another,’ ‘The Pitt’ Take Top Wins

Sinners and One Battle After Another have topped the feature film winners of the 76th Annual ACE Eddie Awards presented by American Cinema Editors (ACE), announced tonight from UCLA’s Royce Hall in a ceremony hosted by actor and comedian Asif Ali.
Sinners editor Michael P. Shawver took home the ACE for theatrical drama while Andy Jurgensen’s work on One Battle After Another earned him the award for theatrical comedy. Both Shawver and Jurgensen are Oscar-nominated for their work alongside fellow ACE nominees Stephen Mirrione (F1), Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie (Marty Supreme) and Olivier Bugge Coutté (Sentimental Value). In head to head competition, F1 previously won Critics Choice while One Battle After Another won BAFTA last weekend.
In looking at how ACE compares with the Oscars’ film editing category, just last year saw Emilia Pérez (drama) and Wicked (comedy) both lose to Anora, one of Sean Baker’s four individual wins that night. Recent drama winners have included Oppenheimer, Top Gun: Maverick and King Richard while comedy winners have been The Holdovers, Everything Everywhere All At Once and tick, tick…Boom! Of the 10 ACE winners this decade so far only Oppenheimer and Everything Everywhere All At Once have repeated their wins at the Oscars and, incidentally, were also the Best Picture winners in their respective years. Both also won this award at BAFTA first.
KPop Demon Hunters won animated feature film for Nathan Schauf and Viridiana Lieberman won documentary feature film for The Perfect Neighbor.
The Pitt, The Studio, The Penguin and Pee-Wee as Himself were among the television winners.
For the first time, the ACE Eddies recognized shorts and digital content, with the Oscar-nominated documentary short All the Empty Rooms among the winners.
The ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award, recognizing a filmmaker who exemplifies distinguished achievement in the art and business of film, was presented to two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker Ang Lee. Kim Larson, Managing Director and Head of YouTube’s Creator and Gaming team, accepted YouTube’s ACE Visionary Award, and Emmy winning editor/director Arthur Forney, ACE, and Oscar-nominated editor Robert Leighton received ACE Career Achievement awards. Actor and comedian Asif Ali hosted the 76th Annual ACE Eddie Awards.
