81st Golden Globe Winner Predictions – Television: Expect ‘Succession,’ ‘The Bear,’ ‘ Beef’ to Reign

The Golden Globes are this Sunday and it will be the first time the new members will have voted for the winners of the Globes, which is (hopefully) certain to provide inspired winners. That was the case only sometimes under the direction of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, so perhaps the first year after the HFPA stopped existing will provide great choices.

While it would be a great year to begin awarding newer series such as Netflix’s The Diplomat, HBO’s former flagship show Succession is more than likely going to bulldoze through the drama categories. Jeremy Strong and Sarah Snook will likely win for Best Actor and Actress in a Drama Series with Matthew Macfadyen bound to take the trophy home for Supporting Actor in a Television Series. It’s a shame that a great final season of Succession has swept through against series like The Last of Us and The Curse, but what a final season Succession gave audiences, thus earning its potential sweep of the drama categories.

The Bear will likely grab a couple of awards on Sunday night, as well, almost certainly allowing Jeremy Allen White a win. Ayo Edebiri seems poised to take the Comedy Actress category, but Quinta Brunson is right on her heels. Either of these ladies taking home the trophy is a win for everyone, as both of their performances are honest and effortless. Meryl Streep seems to be the likely choice for Supporting Actress in a Television Series for her role in Only Murder in the Building’s latest outing, and who could be angry with that decision? Beef was one of the most discussed limited series of 2023, premiering just a month before the WGA strike began, and could take home awards for the series and its two lead performers, Steven Yeun and Ali Wong. The dark horse in these limited series categories could be Showtime’s Fellow Travelers, which made quite an impact over the past couple months. Matt Bomer could come in and take the trophy for Actor in a Limited Series, but it seems more likely that Yeun will take it home.

The Globes have always given fans of film and television something to discuss, for better or for worse. It will be exciting to see what the new members’ addition to the voting body will do for the winners.
