Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) Launches 2025 Screening Series at Egyptian Theatre
The Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) announced today that it is launching a special 50th anniversary year-long screening series, beginning in January 2025, in collaboration with the Egyptian Theatre, that will assemble award-winning guests, archival prints and extended conversations.
In advance of that series, LAFCA announced two 2024 preview dates devoted to filmmakers Michael Mann and Todd Haynes, which will feature live Q&As with the directors moderated by LAFCA members.
The first event, scheduled for Nov. 18th, will be a double feature of Michael Mann’s The Insider (1999), which received several awards from LAFCA, and his magnum opus Heat (1995). Mann will appear in person for a conversation with the New Yorker’s Justin Chang between the films.
Dec. 9th will feature Todd Haynes’ critically acclaimed Safe (1995) followed by LAFCA winner Carol (2015), with Haynes appearing between screenings with the Los Angeles Times’ Joshua Rothkopf.
The 2025 film series will celebrate the organization’s 50 years and highlight movies that have been honored by LAFCA since its founding in 1975. Titles and special guests for the 50th anniversary series to be announced.
“When the team from the Egyptian reached out with the opportunity to collaborate on programming, we were thrilled,” says LAFCA Vice President Katie Walsh. “It’s the perfect venue in the heart of Hollywood for us to showcase some of our favorite movies, as well as to spotlight the incredible talents we’ve awarded over our rich 50-year history as an organization. We couldn’t be more pleased to share these events with L.A.’s enthusiastic community of cinephiles.”
All events are open to the public. Tickets for the 2024 screenings are available now here.
