Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) Go For ‘One Battle After Another,’ Rose Byrne, Ethan Hawke and More

The Toronto Film Critics Association has chose Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another as the best film of 2025, also awarding Anderson in Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay and Benicio del Toro as the co-winner for Outstanding Supporting Performance.
Anderson has won Best Director from the TFCA four times (Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love, The Master, and One Battle After Another) and screenplay three times (Magnolia, The Master, and One Battle After Another). This is his first win in adapted.
Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) and Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon) shared the Outstanding Lead Performance award (a feat they also earned from Los Angeles critics at nearly the same time) with Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent) were the runners-up.
Nina Hoss (Hedda) shared the supporting win with del Toro with runners-up that included Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Amy Madigan (Weapons), Sean Penn (One Battle After Another) and Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value).
Sinners found some love in Original Screenplay and a runner-up mention for Miles Caton in Breakthrough Performance (shared with One Battle After Another’s Chase Infiniti) while more left of center choices came in for Animated Feature (Endless Cookie) and First Feature (Blue Heron).
After his Gotham win early this week, Abou Sangaré (Souleymane’s Story) won another Breakthrough Performance win today.
