Chicago Film Critics Association (CFCA) Winners: ‘One Battle After Another’ Tops with 9

The Chicago Film Critics Association (CFCA) today announces their 2025 award winners. Earning a record nine awards, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another was named Best Film, also earning Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Benicio del Toro) and Supporting Actress (Teyana Taylor), Best Adapted Screenplay and more. The film surpasses the previous record seven wins by 2021’s The Power of the Dog.
Rose Byrne was named Best Actress for her performance in Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You; Timothée Chalamet earned Best Actor for his turn in Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme.
Elsewhere among the winners, embattled Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi won Best Original Screenplay for It Was Just an Accident, also named Best International Feature. A riveting true-crime documentary composed entirely of bodycam and interrogation footage, Geeta Gandbhir’s The Perfect Neighbor was named Best Documentary; Netflix also claimed the Best Animated Film category with KPop Demon Hunters.
One Battle After Another’s breakout performance from Columbia College Chicago grad Chase Infiniti earned her the organization’s Most Promising Performer Award, while Eva Victor was named the Milos Stehlik Breakthrough Filmmaker Award winner for Sorry, Baby, a 2025 Chicago Critics Film Festival official selection.
