‘Empire,’ ‘The Americans’ Win Top TCA Awards; Amy Schumer Snags Two
The 2015 TCA Awards were handed out last night and Amy Schumer came out the big winner. A breakthrough year for her with a hit show and a hit summer movie (Trainwreck), Schumer grabbed the two big comedy awards, Outstanding Achievement in Comedy (Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer) and Individual Achievement in Comedy. She bested favorite Transparent (Amazon) in both categories and shockingly, that show went home empty-handed despite going into the night with a four nominations. Even though they only managed two Emmy nominations last month, FX’s The Americans won Outstanding Achievement in Drama while Jon Hamm won his second Individual Achievement in Drama for the final season of Mad Men. But it was Empire, the biggest network television hit in a decade that walked away with Program of the Year. The ratings blockbuster entered the night with four nominations.
In other awards, ABC Family’s The Fosters won in the Youth Programming for the second year in a row and perennial nominee Twin Peaks lost the Heritage Award yet again, this time to David Letterman and his outgoing Late Show/Late Night with David Letterman.
