Las Vegas Film Critics Go All In on Creed, Beasts of No Nation; Snub Saoirse Ronan, Carol
It’s another day and another critics awards list of nominations. This time it’s Las Vegas who have gone all in on Creed, giving it Best Picture, Director, Actor and Supporting Actor nominations, the first group to do so. Although I have to wonder if Las Vegas being the boxing capital of the United States might have a tiny bit to do with that.
Elsewhere, Beasts of No Nation roars with five nominations, including Best Picture and Director. Todd Haynes’ Carol was snubbed pretty hard, only earning one above the line nomination – for Cate Blanchett in Lead Actress. Brooklyn‘s Saoirse Ronan was snubbed in that category, one where she’s made it in virtually everywhere else.

Surely the members of this group are smoking something. Ronan has given the most nuanced and beautiful performance of the year. Her omission is laughable.
