Frontrunner Friday: ‘Detroit’ Still Tops but ‘Wonderstruck’ is Closing In and Blade Runner Makes a Move
[divider style=”normal” top=”20″ bottom=”20″]
Not a whole of change from last week (we’ll see if the official predictions the Monday after next provide any big movement) but Cannes Official Competition entry Wonderstruck, from Todd Haynes, is creeping up on Detroit right now and is just three points away from the top spot. That’s up five points from last week. The Amazon film is still without a release date but that isn’t stopping it from charging ahead this week. New release date announcements are landing fast and furious so I expect one to be announced around its premiere at Cannes or shortly thereafter.
The top 10 is pretty much the same as last week with just a few scant placement moves. Dunkirk pulls ahead of Lean on Pete to secure the #5 spot for itself, Downsizing keeps shrinking in points and Inner City and Call Me By Your Name swap spots. Further down the list Blade Runner 2049 makes a move, landing at #11 and Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled fashion flick falls off the list entirely and gets booted to the Other Contenders section.
