Boston Society of Film Critics (BSFC): Phantom Thread Wins Best Film, Director; Lady Bird, Get Out Grab Two Apiece
The Boston Society of Film Critics (BSFC) have chosen Phantom Thread as the best film of 2017. The film also Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson and Original Score for Johnny Greenwood, giving it the most wins from the group. Vicky Krieps was runner-up in Best Actress, her first mention of the season.
Lady Bird and Get Out were double winners today with the former earning Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress (Laurie Metcalf) and the latter winning the New Filmmaker award for Jordan Peele and, in a nice surprise, Daniel Kaluuya picked up his first Best Actor win.
Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project) continued to steamroll his competition in Best Supporting Actor. He now has eight of nine wins in this category so far.

The Boston Society of Film Critics was formed in 1981 to make “Boston’s unique critical perspective heard on a national and international level by awarding commendations to the best of the year’s films and filmmakers and local film theaters and film societies that offer outstanding film programming.”
The BSFC has dedicated past award proceedings in memory of members Robin Dougherty (2005) and David Brudnoy (2004) who passed before their time. The Best New Filmmaker Award was conceived and instituted in the memory of Mr. Brudnoy, a founding member of the BSFC and longtime radio talk show host on WBZ radio for several decades.
