‘Where Is Kyra?’ Poster and Trailer starring Michelle Pfeiffer

I can barely think of an actress who deserves a comeback more than Michelle Pfeiffer. The three-time Oscar nominee (Dangerous Liaisons, The Fabulous Baker Boys, Love Field) was poised for one last year with the release of mother! and the Murder on the Orient Express remake but the former failed and flopped (despite incredible notices for Pfeiffer) and the latter, while a big hit, didn’t really do much for her.

Now comes Where Is Kyra? Awkward title aside (it was previously titled Beat Up Little Seagull), the film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival last year but didn’t immediately acquire distribution. Pundits had pegged her a possible Best Actress contender but when no one bit those predictions fell by the wayside. Enter Great Point Media, who partially funded the film. The UK distributor is known primarily for digital and television releases decided last month to break out to theatrical distribution. They plan to release Where Is Kyra? on March 30th in partnership with Paladin. Great Point Media is beyond one of last year’s sleeper indie awards hits, Lady Macbeth.

Where Is Kyra? tells the story of a woman (Pfeiffer) who cares for her ailing mother in Brooklyn and depends solely on her mother’s income. After her mother’s death, Kyra must go to great lengths to survive.

The film is directed by Andrew Dosunmu with a screenplay by Darci Picoult based on a story by Dosunmu. It is gorgeously shot by Bradford Young (Selma, Arrival, the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story) and counts Killer Films’ Christine Vachon (Carol, Far From Heaven) as one of its high-profile producers. It co-stars Kiefer Sutherland, Suzanne Shepherd and Sam Robards.
