South Korea selects ‘Parasite’ for International Feature Film Oscar submission
As expected, South Korea has selected the Cannes Palme d’Or-winning Parasite from director Bong Joon-ho as its submission for the International Feature Film (formerly Foreign Language Film) Oscar race.
This is the second time a Bon Joon-ho has been the country’s choice with the director’s 2009 effort Mother being his first. The east Asian country has submitted 30 times since 1962, all unsuccessfully. It only made the Oscar shortlist just last year with Lee Chang-dong’s Burning.

Parasite stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik and Park So-dam and revolves around the unemployed Ki-taek family, who take a peculiar interest in the wealthy and glamorous Parks for their livelihood until they get entangled in an unexpected incident.
Neon picked up Parasite for US distribution and the film will hit a host of fall festivals, including Telluride and Toronto, before landing in theaters on October 11.
