2020 Oscars: Critics Choice + Golden Globe + SAG + BAFTA – Who Got What and Who Missed Out
The Oscars did very little to venture outside of the very solid ground of the four main (and televised) precursors to get an actor to a nomination.
Sometimes an actor with this seemingly safe holy quartet gets can still find themselves locked out of that final step and clinch that Oscar nod as Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Amy Adams (Arrival) and Timothée Chalamet (Beautiful Boy) can tell you. But not this year. Every actor who first snagged all four of those precursors translated it into an Oscar nomination. Some got close (poor Taron Egerton) and some came from almost nothing (hi Kathy Bates) to beat out widely predicted top contenders. There was no Marina de Tavira this year.
Here’s who got what on their way to that Oscar nomination this week and who missed out.

Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes) had Critics Choice, the Globe and BAFTA.

Supporting Actress had just two locks with Laura Dern (Marriage Story) and Margot Robbie (Bombshell) getting all four precursors. BAFTA went for Scarlett Johansson in Jojo Rabbit with that and SAG she found her way in. BAFTA gave Robbie a second nomination for Once, something not allowed at the Oscars. Jennifer Lopez (Hustlers) missed BAFTA and it seems that’s all it took; she had secured Critics Choice, Globe and SAG noms but was snubbed in favor of Kathy Bates, who only had a Globe nomination.
