‘Unbelievable,’ ‘Watchmen’ lead 2020 TCA nominations
Netflix’s Unbelievable and HBO’s Watchmen limited series’ led the nominations for the 2020 Television Critics Association (TCA) today, earning four apiece, including Outstanding Achievement in Movie or Miniseries and Program of the Year.
Each female-led show also earned individual acting nominations for Regina King (Watchmen) and a pair for Unbelievable actresses Kaitlyn Dever and Merritt Wever.
AMC’s Better Call Saul, FX on Hulu’s Mrs. America, Pop TV’s Schitt’s Creek and HBO’s Succession were next with three nominations each, followed by FX’s Better Things, Netflix’s Dead To Me, Hulu’s The Great and HBO’s Insecure, each with two noms each. All earned individual achievement nominations for their performers including Catherine O’Hara, Jeremy Strong and Issa Rae.
HBO earned the most nominations, with 16, followed by Netflix at 10, FX and FX on Hulu picked up seven, Hulu and PBS/PBS Kids both earned six, and NBC picked up five.
The TCA Awards nominees are selected by more than 200 professional television critics and journalists from the United States and Canada, with voting having taken place virtually last month.
The 36th Annual TCA Awards winners will be announced later this summer but not in a live and in-person event as is normally done due to the coronavirus pandemic. Career Achievement and Heritage Award winners will also be announced in the coming months.
