Interviews: All the queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 [VIDEO]
A global pandemic wasn’t going to stop drag queens from making art, and it sure as hell wasn’t going to stop the RuPaul’s Drag Race train from hurtling down the tracks.
On New Year’s Day, the 13th season of the Emmy-winning competition series returns. Filmed under strict lockdown in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the show will look and feel different than ever, but the wigs and the drama and the lip syncs weren’t going to wait for anybody.
The new season brings an incredibly diverse cast to the table, including the show’s first trans male contestant (Gottmik) and a practicing Seventh Day Adventist (Utica Queen). There are wildly different levels of experience in play, too, including queens who have been in the game for decades (Tamisha Iman, Tina Burner) and a queen who just started doing drag last year (Olivia Lux).
Daniel Trainor and Sam Stone chatted with the season 13 queens about all things Drag Race, including the intensity of filming during quarantine, the evolution of drag throughout America, the power of being political and what the future of drag might look like.
RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13 premieres on January 1, 2021 at 8/7C on VH1.
