Interview: Bradley Whitford and Max Minghella discuss the new season of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’
The pair also talk about a ‘West Wing Reboot’ and the impact of Elisabeth Moss as a director
While Elisabeth Moss and Ann Dowd are often referred to as the biggest strengths in The Handmaid’s Tale, it’s the supporting cast which makes this show head and shoulders above the rest. Bradley Whitford and Max Minghella are a perfect example of this.
Whitford is perhaps best known for his Emmy-winning work on The West Wing and Minghella is best connected to his roles in The Social Network and The Internship, each plays an important role in striking a balanced tone in the show. Whitford’s Commander Lawrence is wrestling with this idea of rebellion while still mourning the loss of his wife. Minghella’s Nick is obviously romantically involved with Moss’s June and seems ready to step up a fight for freedom.
We were lucky enough to speak with both actors before the start of Season 4. We touched on topics ranging from whether there’s ever going to be a West Wing reboot to Elisabeth Moss’s impact as a director during season 4. What stood out is how glowing each of these actors about her contributions from the director’s chair. They both also seemed very excited about the big set pieces that are a part of this season. In fact the both agreed that it’s a times reminiscent of something you’d see in a Marvel film.
The conversation could have went even deeper but there’s so much about this new season that it heavily guarded and as someone who has seen a large portion of this season, it’s easy to see why that is.
The first three episode of Season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale are available to stream on Hulu now with weekly episodes every Wednesday.
