TRAILER: ‘Inherent Vice’ finally drops, plus the Pynchonian poster
After much, much ado we have something! Warner Brothers has finally dropped the trailer for the incredibly elusive December 12th release, Inherent Vice, from Paul Thomas Anderson. The film is set to make its world premiere at the 52nd New York Film Festival next week and up to this point we’ve have not much to go off of: a few production stills, whispers that it might be too weird for Oscar taste. But now it’s finally here in it’s all its twisted, oddball glory.
Based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon (the first film adaptation of any of his works), the early 70s-era film follows the antics of Doc Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix), a drug-fueled private investigator trying to solve a kidnapping case brought to him by his ex-girlfriend (Katherine Waterston) involving her new beau, a billionaire Eric Roberts. The film also features Reese Witherspoon, Benicio del Toro, Owen Wilson and Josh Brolin. Sort of feels like Out of Sight meets The Big Lebowski.
