2023 Oscar Predictions: SUPPORTING ACTRESS (July)
With the first trailer for Universal’s She Said dropping, we had our first look at several potential contenders in this category, including Samantha Morton and Patricia Clarkson, both previous supporting actress Oscar nominees. But what I think is more likely to happen is that Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan, while arguably co-leads of the film, will be campaigned in lead and supporting, respectively. That would give Kazan and overwhelming advantage to her co-star with lesser screentime.
While dual supporting actress nominations from the same film are by no means scarce (most recently 2018’s The Favourite with Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz), it’s probably more likely to happen with The Son from Sony Pictures Classics with Laura Dern and Vanessa Kirby, the latter of whom vaults into the top five this month.
Here are my 2023 Oscar predictions in Supporting Actress for July 2022.
