Amazon Studios has unveiled its FYC awards and screenings page for its 2016 films with Manchester by the Sea and Love & Friendship leading the way.
In all, 10 films make up Amazon’s slate this year and they’re hoping to crash the Oscar race big time. Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea is the studio’s biggest lock and the film is being pushed in virtually every category including Best Picture, Best Director (Lonergan), Best Actor (Casey Affleck), Best Supporting Actor (Kyle Chandler and Lucas Hedges), Best Supporting Actress (Michelle Williams), Best Film Editing, and Best Original Screenplay.
The summer sleeper hit Love & Friendship from Whit Stillman could find him returning to the Oscars. He was previously nominated back in 1991 for his screenplay Metropolitan. This year could find not only Stilman but the film’s costumes, makeup and hairstyling, and possibly Kate Beckinsale courting awards and nominations. Beckinsale stands a very good chance at a Golden Globe nomination in the Comedy/Musical category as does the film.
Paterson (starring Adam Driver) and Woody Allen’s Café Society are also on the list but seemingly to a lesser extent than Manchester and L&F. Amazon is currently set to debut Allen’s first television show, A Crisis in Six Scenes, later this month on its streaming service.
Rounding out their films, and it’s a really nice range of types of films, are the documentaries Gleason, Author: The JT Leroy Story and Gimme Danger, the South Korean critical hit The Handmaiden from Park-Chan Wook, the Kate Winslet film The Dressmaker and the psychosexual lesbian supermodel necrophiliac vampire movie The Neon Demon from Nicholas Winding Refn.
