Annette Bening is set to be feted at the AFI Fest on November 16th in a tribute that will also feature a screening of her newest film, and Oscar hopeful, 20th Century Women.
The film, about a bohemian family in 1979 Santa Barbara, received high praise after its debut as the Centerpiece film of the New York Film Festival last week. It was written and directed by Mike Mills (Beginners), and also stars Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, Lucas Jade Zumann, and Billy Crudup. It’s set for release by A24 on January 20th, 2017 after an Oscar-qualifying release on Christmas Day.
“Annette Bening is a modern-day icon of American cinema,” said AFI Fest Director Jacqueline Lyanga. “She brings her characters to life with an emotional intelligence that is luminous and powerful. In ’20th Century Women,’ she finds one of her richest roles yet, delivering a strong performance that anchors the film’s terrific ensemble cast.”
Annette Bening has been nominated for four Academy Awards and has received lots of buzz for this role this year. Check out where the Gold Rush Gang thinks she’s at right now in the Best Actress race.
This tribute makes AFI Fest a family affair this year; Bening’s husband Warren Beatty will open the festival on November 10th with his film Rules Don’t Apply, which he directed, wrote and co-stars.
