The Austin Film Critics Association (AFCA) announced its 2019 awards nominations today and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood leads with 9 and Parasite comes in with 8 mentions. Both were nominated for Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Ensemble.
Other Best Film nominees are The Irishman, Marriage Story, and Uncut Gems. In a bit of a twist, Marriage Story‘s Noah Baumbach missed Best Director in favor of his partner Greta Gerwig, although Little Women was not nominated in Best Film.
The Texas org took some chances from the norm with some of their nominations today including Adèle Haenel in Supporting Actress for Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Waves in Original Score and not one, but two nominations for Will Smith in their Motion Capture/Special Effects Performance category for Aladdin and Gemini Man.
Winners, including the Austin Film Award, Top 10 Films of 2019, their Best of the Decade list, and special awards, will be announced on Monday, January 6th. Here is the full list of nominations.
