‘Baby Reindeer,’ ‘Ripley,’ ‘Shōgun’ Lead 40th Television Critics Association Nominations
The nominations for the 40th annual Television Critics Association have been revealed, with Netflix’s Baby Reindeer and Ripley and FX’s Shōgun leading the pack with five noms apiece and pushing the two networks/streamers to the top with 16 nominations for each.
The TCA Awards nominations are voted on by a group of more than 230 television journalists from the U.S. and Canada. Voting will close on Thursday, June 13 at 12 a.m. PT. Winners will be announced at an in-person ceremony as part of the TCA summer press tour on Friday, July 12 at the Langham Huntington in Pasadena.
Baby Reindeer and Ripley both earned nominations for Program of the Year, New Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama, Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries or Specials and Individual Achievement in Drama for Richard Gadd and Andrew Scott, respectively. Last week, Scott won the limited series performance award from the inaugural Gotham TV Awards while Baby Reindeer was the Breakthrough Limited Series there.
Shōgun, which was recently renewed for a second season at FX after record-breaking ratings, also earned nods for Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama, Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries or Specials and Individual Achievement in Drama for both Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada, the only program to earn two nominations in drama.
Last year’s winner in comedy, The Bear, earned four nominations: Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and two individual nods, for Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri. Hacks, Fargo and Reservation Dogs were next with three nominations apiece.
In the acting categories, which are not split by gender, drama nominees also include True Detective’s Jodie Foster and Fargo’s Juno Temple, while the comedy category includes two former winners with Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson and Hacks star Jean Smart joined by Girls5eva’s Renee Elise Goldsberry and Devery Jacobs of Reservation Dogs.
