Disney’s live action remake of Beauty and the Beast topped the MTV Movie & TV Awards with wins for Best Movie and Best Actor in a Movie (Emma Watson) tonight, besting nomination leader Get Out, which walked home with wins for Lil Rel Howery for Comedic Performance and Daniel Kaluuya for the Next Generation award.
On television, Stranger Things won Show of the Year and Best Actor in a Show for young newcomer Millie Bobby Brown. The Netflix homage to 80s sci-fi/horror was the nomination leader for television. RuPaul’s Drag Race won the Reality Competition category and black-ish won Best American Story.
Moonlight‘s Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome won Best Kiss for Moonlight and Hidden Figures won the new Fight Against the System category.
MTV combined film and television together for the first time this year as well as eliminated the gender-specific categories in both genres, opting instead for a single ‘Actor’ category encompassing all genders. Asia Kate Dillon, the gender non-binary breakthrough star of Showtime’s Billions, announced the first win of the night, Best Actor in a Movie, which went to Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast.
