Black Panther is Black Film Critics Circle winner for Best Picture of 2018. It also picked up wins for Ryan Coogler as Best Director and for the cast as Best Ensemble.
If Beale Street Could Talk was a double-winner, earning prizes for director Barry Jenkins in Adapted Screenplay and Regina King for Supporting Actress.
Viola Davis was the group’s Best Actress winner for Widows and Bradley Cooper triumphed in Best Actor for A Star Is Born
“This has been a year of significant advancement for storytellers of color” BFCC co-president Mike Sargent said. “The diversity of types of films being made by filmmakers of color and how well they have been received at the global box office speaks volumes to antiquated notion that ‘black films don’t travel’ or have international appeal.”
