‘Black Panther,’ ‘Bros,’ ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once,’ ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’ lead Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) nominations

The nominations for the 13th Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) were announced today where Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Bros, Everything Everywhere All at Once and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio led with three mentions apiece. Till, Where the Crawdads Sing, White Noise and The Woman King were among several films to receive double nods.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was nominated for Song – Feature Film for Rihanna’s new single “Life Me Up,” Score – SciFi Film and Song/Score in a Trailer for Kendrick Lamar’s cover of “No Woman No Cry.” Bros’ nominations came from Song – Feature Film for Billy Eichner and Marc Shaiman’s “Love Is Not Love,” which was also nominated for Eichner’s performance of the song in the film. Everything Everywhere All at Once earned nods for Score – Independent Film, Song – Independent Film (“This Is A Life”) and Music Supervision. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio was nominated for Song – Animated Film (“Ciao Papa”), Score – Animated Film and Music Themed Film, Biopic or Musical.

In television, Showtime’s Emmy-nominated Yellowjackets led with four nominations. 1883 and Slow Horses were next with three each.

Composers receiving multiple nominations include FINNEAS, Danny Elfman, Michael Giacchino, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, and Simon Franglen.  Songwriter nominees include icons Selena Gomez, Drake, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Tanya Tucker, Mel Brooks, Jazmine Sullivan and Lady Gaga. Past winner and multi-nominated songwriter Diane Warren also made the list.  

The HMMAs honors composers, songwriters, and music supervisors for their work in music for film, television, and videogames. For awards consideration, score entries submit up to 15-minutes of score to picture as it appears in the visual media project. Several films were only available to see in the context of the scenes provided. 

Past HMMA winners who went on to win Oscars include last year’s Billie Eilish and Finneas for No Time to Die and Hans Zimmer for Dune, as well as Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross & Jon Batiste for SOUL, Hildur Guðnadóttir for Joker, Ludwig Göransson for Black Panther, Alexandre Desplat for The Shape of Water, songs from Judas and the Black MessiahLa La LandA Star is Born and more. 

The 13th Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) will be announced at a ceremony on November 13 at the Avalon in Los Angeles.

Erik Anderson is the founder/owner and Editor-in-Chief of AwardsWatch and has always loved all things Oscar, having watched the Academy Awards since he was in single digits; making lists, rankings and predictions throughout the show. This led him down the path to obsessing about awards. Much later, he found himself in film school and the film forums of GoldDerby, and then migrated over to the former Oscarwatch (now AwardsDaily), before breaking off to create AwardsWatch in 2013. He is a Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic, accredited by the Cannes Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and more, is a member of the International Cinephile Society (ICS), The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (GALECA), Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) and the International Press Academy. Among his many achieved goals with AwardsWatch, he has given a platform to underrepresented writers and critics and supplied them with access to film festivals and the industry and calls the Bay Area his home where he lives with his husband and son.
