The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) hands out its 22nd awards for Production Design multiple categories for Feature Film, Television and Short Form Media.

In the top film categories, The Shape of Water won Period Film, Logan won Contemporary Film and Blade Runner 2049 won Fantasy Film. Coco won for Animated Film, the first year of the category.

Last year, the winners were Hidden Figures (Period), La La Land (Contemporary), and Passengers (Fantasy). La La Land won the Oscar for Production Design. This year, Oscar’s Production Design nominees are: Beauty and the Beast, Blade Runner 2049, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk and The Shape of Water.

The winners at ADG match up with Oscar about 2/3 of the time and almost entirely in the Period or Fantasy categories (save La La Land’s contemporary win last year) so the Oscar race should come down to Paul Austerberry for The Shape of Water and Dennis Gassner for Blade Runner 2049. The Shape of Water is Austerberry’s first Oscar nomination; Blade Runner 2049 is Gassner’s 6th. He won once, for 1991’s Bugsy.

Here is the full list of nominees and winners in all categories.
