Brendan Fraser is an Actor on Loan in First Trailer for ‘Rental Family’

Academy Award winner Brendan Fraser (The Whale) is back with his first major leading role since his Oscar win, in Rental Family from HIKARI. Searchlight Pictures released the first trailer for the film today.
Set against modern-day Tokyo, the film follows an American actor (Fraser) who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection.
The film also stars Takehiro Hira (Shōgun), Mari Yamamoto (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters), Akira Emoto (The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi) and Shannon Gorman.
Rental Family will world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and then receive a theatrical release by Searchlight Pictures on November 21. Here is the trailer.
